Luc Boivin started his professionnal carreer in the early
70's as a coach-accompanist for the Grands Ballets Canadiens' danse
school. In the beginning, his activities evolved mostly in classical and contemporary
music.
In 1976 and 1977 he began working as an extra percussionist
with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Grands Ballets Canadiens Orchestra
and the Société de Musique Contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ). With the SMCQ, he
had the opportunity to play with composers such as Olivier Messiaen, under
the direction of Serge Garant.
Luc was also a member of tje McGil Percussion Ensemble and of
Concept Neuf, two ensembles exclusively made up of percussionists, the first
devoted to the contemporary percussion repertoire, the latter to world and
popular music. With these two groups, he performed on many reconrdings and
took part in concert tours in Quebec, Canada and USA. With the McGill Percussion
Ensemble, he was also involved in the performance of the world premiere of "Les
Sept Jours" by Quebec composer Walter Boudreau in 1977. This work's recording
was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque du Canada by the Canadian Music Council.

Two important encounters marked Luc Boivin's early involvement
in pop music during the 70's. In 1975, he joined singer Ginette Reno's band,
and in 1977, pianist André Gagnon. These two encounters led to associations
that lasted more than 20 years...
Luc also started working in recording studios, in the 70's, playin
on albums of artists such as Pauline Julien, Nicole Martin, and René Simard.
But it is mostly from the 80's that he became active and known as a TV and
recording studio artist.
Luc Boivin performed on more thant 80 albums with french and
Quebec artists such as François Dompierre, André Gagnon, UZEB,
Michel Cusson, Ginette Reno, Renée Claude, Carole Laure and Lewis Furey,
Michel Rivard, Daniel Lavoie, Charles Aznavour, Robert Charlebois, and many
others...
On
television, Luc has appeared on most of the variety and music shows produced
by the mian networks in Quebc and Canada. He was heard on 8 ADISQ galas (Association
québécoise de l'industrie du disque, du spectacles et de la vidéo),as
well as on the MetroStar, La Presse, and Prix Gémeaux galas.
He has also performed many times on the well known Sunday TV show "Les
Beaux Dimanches",
with artists such as Michel Fugain, Pétula
Clark, Daniel Lavoie, and group Harmonium.
Of all the regular television series he played on, the most widely
known in Quebec is probably "Beau et Chaud", a daily summer
show broadcasted from 1990 to 1994
by Radio-Québec,
on which he also acted as music director.
Even as he was working a lot in recording studios, Luc kept on
playing live with many local and international artists. Besides his long term
relationship with Ginette Reno and André Gagnon, his carreer reached new peeks
with a series of concerts with internationally known singer Gino Vannelli from
1995 and his participation to a concert in 1996 with the Charlie Watts quintet
at the Montreal International Jazz Festival.
Today Luc Boivin divides his work on stage with Gino Vannelli
and a new weekly television show on Radio-Québec, "Belle et
Bum".
